Even though a great deal has been written about the architecture beauty of this temple, a religious aspect has not found much of a mention.
The Siva linga in this temple is a shodasha linga with 16 stripes which is very rare to see. If you want to do a parikrama around this Shiva linga you will have enter a small passage which is called the door of death. You come out through the door of birth. The door of birth is similar to coming out of the mother's womb. It is an experience difficult to explain in words - One must visit this temple to understand!
