Tirupambupuram – Dakshina Kalahasti Shiva Temple, Kumbakonam

This is a very ancient Shiva temple located near Mayavaram. The name of the village Thirupambupuram means “Town of the Holy Snake”.  There is an ancient tree inside the temple which is said to be thousands of year old.

There have been many instances in this temple where real snakes have come and slept on top the Shiva Linga. The temple authorities still have some of the skin which the snakes had left behind.

Specialty:

Rahu and Ketu are seen in a single idol in this temple. Due to this, the temple is known for its Kala Sarpa Dosha Pujas.
