Sun God Temple

The famous Sun God Temple situated in Arasavalli Village which is at a distance of about 1 K.M. east of Srikakulam Town District head quarters of the North Coastal Andhra Pradesh. It is one of the ancient and all among two sun God temples in our Country. According to Padma puranam , Sage Kasyapa installed the Idol of Surya at Arasavalli for the Welfare of mankind . Therefore , the Surya is of Kasyapasa Gotra . He is also termed as planetary King . According to the ‘ Sthalapuranam ‘ of the temple, Lord Devendra found this temple and installed the existing idol of the sun God commonly known as Lord suryanarayana Swamy Varu under the following circumstances
WORSHIP OF SUN GOD:


This temple has the unique feature of attracting crowds of the people of different sectors , cultures and creeds together and making them believe the God is one and there is no difference between Siva and Kesava. The Five idols ( Panchayatana installed in a particular place in the temple) namely :

1. Aditya 

2. Ambika 

3. Vishnu 

4. Ganesha 

5. Maheswara, 


The above gods represents all the faiths, finally the devotees visiting this temple , go and worship the presiding diety Sun God about whom the puranas speak as the embodiment of  the Trinitymurthies , Brahama ,Vishnu and Maheswara shiva.

HISTORICAL IMPORTANCE OF THE TEMPLE: 


The temple is build in such a way as to make the Sun Rays focus on the feet of the God twice in the year in the months of March and September in the early hours of the day . The rays so focused on the feet of the Idol through the five entrance gates of the temple, remain for a few minutes .

You can reach Srikakulam by buses, trains or planes. Srikakulam is well connected to other parts of the state of Andhra Pradesh and also to the major cities. 


Srikakulam has a major railway station known as Amadalavalasa. It is 13 kilometres from srikakulam. City buses, taxes, autos are available from the Railway station to Srikakulam RTC Complex and Old Bus Stand for every 10 minutes


The nearest Airport to Srikakulam is Visakhapatnam with a Distance 106 kilometers. RTC Buses are available frequently from Visakhapatnam to Srikakulam.

You can travel by bus to Srikakulam as both private and public operators provide regular buses to Srikakulam from all major and minor cities in the state. Buses to Srikakulam run from Vijayawada, and Vishakhapatnam. Buses from Hyderabad are also available.  The nearest place to stay is srikakulam which is near by 1.6 kms from arasavilli


PLACES NEAR BY 


Travellers visiting Arasavalli can also plan one day trip to visit two more important temples, Sri Kurmam (13 Kms from Srikakulam) and Sri Mukhalingam (60 Kms from Srikakulam). People can use public transport to reach Srikakulam and can hire a vehicle depending upon the number of people travelling to visit these two temples from Srikakulam itself. Good hotels are available in Srikakulam for all kind of budget travellers. Very good South Indian and North Indian food available here
