Sarasbaug Mahalakshmi Devi – Pune, Maharashtra

Location:- Saras Baug was once a small lake. The lake has dried up and the area is now conserved as a park or Baug (in marathi). This is one of the major landmarks in the city of Pune in Maharashtra and is very famous for its Ganpati temple. In this article however, we are going to focus on a Mahalakshmi temple nearby.

Main Deity:- The mandir is dedicated to Devi worship and the main deities are the three Goddesses of Hindu religion – Goddess Mahalaxmi (Goddess of wealth and prosperity), Maha Kali (destroyer of Evil) & Maha Saraswati (Goddess of knowledge and education). This is a Adi-Shakti temple where one can receive blessings from the divine Mother.

Below is a picture of Mahalakshmi Devi decked in her pure Gold saree. It is said that the saree costs around 15 crore INR and has been manufactured at Kanchipuram.

Architecture:- This temple came into existence in the year 1972 under its founder late Shri Bansilal Ramnath Agarwal.
The temple is a white marble structure with intricate carvings on its pillars and walls. It has three Gopurams that also have various sculptures. The entire temple took 12 years to construct. Even the deities are made out of marble and decorated with Gold ornaments. The deities are 6 feet tall idols.
The Vimanam is around 60 feet tall and has been carved in Dravidian style of architecture

Festivals/Prayers:- The main festivals at this temple is the Navratri festival. Special Pujas and Aartis are held during these days.

On the day of Tripurari Poornima, the temple is decorated with 100,000 lamps.
