In the long tradition of India, respect for the environment is given a great place of importance. Several trees, rivers, sacred grooves,animals,plants and ponds have been venerated as God, so that they can be preserved for the future generations. In fact, our culture saw the presence of divine in everything so considered everything sacred.

Several sacred texts in Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism mention several plants which have excellent medicinal and environmental value. They are also associated with specific Nakshatras (stars), Rashi Signs. In fact some astrologers recommend planting of certain trees as a remedy for several problems.

The indiscriminate cutting of trees has resulted in climate changes and global warming, the effect of which is easily seen now-a-days as an experience and needs no further evidence.
